Our church Unity Day 2016 was exciting and very well attended.
The theme of Unity Day was was Love
Reverend Dr. Darlene Barr Cortez was the keynote speaker and spoke primarily to the youth letting them know that they shouldn’t always let their zip code define them and to work hard and strive for success in all that they do.
Dr. Cortez has her Bachelor’s in Accounting from Chaney University and her Master’s of Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Church Planning and Transformation.
She is the Pastor at Bethel A.M.E. Church Pottsville, PA; Associate/Youth Grimes A.M.E. Church in Phoenixville, PA; and Associate/Pastor at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Norristown, PA
There were three singing groups on the program who all did a remarkable job in song and in testimony:
-The Bethel Baptist Chior
-Sis. Rosalyn Andrew
-The Scott Family Singers
I presented the Black History Moment on Hazel Winifred Johnson-Brown, the first African American woman to achieve the rank of brigadier general in the United Stated Army.
Karl Farelice presented his poem, What is Unity. Everyone agreed that his poem was timely. He reminded us that we are of one race, the Human Race, and must work together.
It is good to be back.
Have a blessed week.
